Gerardo La Porta, Painter

Gerardo La Porta, also known as ‘GiLaPorta’, was born in 1966 in Eboli, Italy, and now has his studio in Pavia. While he dreamed of art school, his parents did not approve, and so the majority of his early work was hidden from family and friends. Early inspiration included Giotto, and this was a springboard to discover the art world, including Kandinsky. 

Having worked on cruise ships for a decade, Gerardo has experiences many cultures and encountered many people. Gerardo paints brightly coloured portraits, landscapes, flowers and animals, working from photographs and with a clear idea of the emotion or message he wishes to convey, and the resulting works are full of personality. Time and again Gerardo will return to the female form, painting with both marked realism and a conceptual simplification of traits.
